We are so excited to begin our journey as writers! We're using the curricular resource Units of Study by Lucy Calkins and Colleagues from the Reading and Writing Project. Our focus units include: Narrative, Information, Opinion, and Poetry.

Your 2nd grader will begin the year writing about stories from his/her own life. You can support your writer at home by talking about shared events from your family life. These do not have to be major life events, just every day moments that can turn into stories! You'll see a TINY TOPIC notebook traveling between home and school. Your 2nd grader might stop everything he/she is doing to capture a memory or a great idea for a story!
