4K Program

Welcome to the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District's 4K Program. Thank you for starting your child’s educational journey with us!

To participate in the program for the
23-24 school year, your child must be
4-years-old on or before
September 1, 2023.

4K is a half-day program. Your child will be assigned to an AM or PM session:

Morning session, 9:00-11:30am
Afternoon session, 12:20-2:50pm

Daily attendance is required for the entire class period, Monday through Friday. Part-time or drop-in attendance
is not an option in the 4K program.

Your child's placement is based on your home address attendance boundary, available space, and classroom balance.

Best Practices in Teaching & Learning

The teaching and learning focus of the 4K program in the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District includes:

Providing active learning opportunities through play-based and explicit teaching and learning experiences.
Utilizing robust learning centers and hands-on opportunities to explore real-world objects, engage in dramatic play, and build foundational social and academic skills.
Ensuring a print-rich environment with opportunities for children to read, listen to, and respond to books. Students will explore concepts of print including letter names and letter sounds. Students will recite poems, sing songs, and notice print in their environment.
Celebrating the start of lifelong learning, growth, and success for each child, based on individual learning needs and characteristics.
Connecting deeply with parents and families through valuable and relevant outreach opportunities.

4K Curriculum

The children work towards securing and mastering the following skills by the end of
the year:

Identifies common shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, heart, and star.
Responds to positional words to indicate space and location: in, on, under, up down, beside, etc.
Recognizes, extends, and creates simple patterns.
Consistently counts aloud to 20 or more.
Counts a set of 10 or more objects.
Recognizes and names numerals 0-10.

4K Sites

The Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District covers 26 square miles, including all of the City of
Oak Creek and approximately 7 square miles of the City of Franklin.

Your child’s 4K site assignment will be based on their home address attendance boundary (or childcare provider's address, if requested) and available space in the classroom.
