Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District utilizes STAR 360 assessments as a universal screening tool that has strong linkage to predicting student performance on the Wisconsin Forward assessment.

About STAR 360

STAR assessments are computer-adaptive tests, meaning the questions automatically adjust based on how the student answered the previous item. Not only does the computer-adaptive assessments reduce testing time, they also limit student frustration by eliminating questions that are too difficult or too easy.

Using a research-based growth model, STAR 360 monitors student growth and progress throughout the year and tracks how students are responding to intervention and instruction. Data provided by STAR 360 helps teachers determine appropriate instructional levels and skills for their classroom, ensuring students are being challenged at their individual level. Teachers are able to set attainable goals for students and use STAR 360 to view projected outcomes and actual progress toward student goals.

Student results will be shared with parents via the Star Renaissance Home Connect email after every time your student takes a Star assessment.  Directions on how to set up a Home Connect account and specific student login information is available from your child’s school.

When will OCFJSD students be taking the STAR assessments?

Students will be taking the STAR assessments three times each year: fall, winter and spring

When will my child's results be shared with me?

Student results will be shared with parents via the Star Renaissance Home Connect email after every time your student takes a Star assessment.  Directions on how to set up a Home Connect account and specific student login information is available from your child’s school.

What information will be shared with me?

Following each Star Assessment that your student takes, your Home Connect emailed report will contain your student’s Scale Score and Percentile Rank.  For specific grade level Scale Score goals, please talk with your student’s teacher.

• Scale Score (SS):   is useful for comparing student performance over time and across grades. A scaled score is calculated based on the difficulty of questions and the number of correct responses. Because the same range is used for all students, scaled scores can be used to compare student performance across grade levels. Star Reading and Math scaled scores range from 0 to 1400. 

• Percentile Rank (PR) is a norm-referenced score that provides a measure of a student’s reading ability compared to other students in the same grade nationally. The percentile rank score, which ranges from 1 to 99, indicates the percentage of other students nationally who obtained scores equal to or lower than the score of a particular student. For example, a student with a percentile rank score of 85 performed as well as or better than 85 percent of other students in the same grade.
