ELL Services
Our mission is to provide high quality educational opportunities and maintain high academic expectations for English Language Learners to acquire proficiency in academic English.
What is OCFSD's EL Program?
During the 2020-2021 school year, our families reported 55 languages spoken in the homes of our students! The Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District welcomes the rich diversity the English Learners (ELs) and their families bring into our schools. All of our students, including those who speak languages other than English, have the right to a quality education that reflects high academic and proficiency standards. We are committed to meeting the individual needs of English Learners enrolled in the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District.
Our EL Program provides:
-
Initial identification and support of English learners
-
Sheltered, collaborative, and direct instruction to English learners
-
In-class and small group instruction to build student capacity
-
Annual assessment of academic English language proficiency
-
ELL personnel at each building site
How are students identified?
All students are given a Home Language Survey at the time of enrollment. Students who speak a language other than English more than half of the time are given an academic English language screener to determine their program eligibility.
The WIDA Screener is the required state assessment to determine if a student qualifies for a Language Instructional Education Program.
English Language Assessment
WIDA ACCESS Test for ELLs is a federally required assessment to determine the academic English language proficiency of students in the ELL (English Language Learner) Program. Students participate in the assessment in the four language domains; listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Language Translation and Interpretation
Written Translation - District documents are translated into Arabic, Spanish, Punjabi, Albanian, and other languages as needed.
Oral Interpretation - LanguageLine Solutions is used to help with on-demand interpreting for our families in over 240 languages.
