Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District

Assistive Technology

What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive Technology (AT) supports our district’s mission by providing students with appropriate tools to inspire them to learn and succeed in the school environment. AT utilizes a student's strength to determine the necessary tool to compensate or “work around” his or her specific learning challenge.

Our AT team facilitates decision making using the SETT model:

  • Student (What are the needs and skills of the student?)
  • Environment (Where and with which subject does the student have challenges?)
  • Task (What tasks does the student need to complete?)
  • Tool (Which tools could a student use to complete the tasks?)

AREAS AT may support:

  • Literacy (reading, writing, spelling)
  • Math
  • Computer Access
  • Communication
  • Organization/ Behavior
  • Access to Educational Materials/activities

Our AT team uses a Consult Model to support the School Team (student, parents, teacher) to find solutions ,provide training and resources.
