EMS Students Compete in State Storymap Competition

This year, Mr. Hein's enrichment class at East Middle School was introduced to the arcGIS program, the largest depository of geographic information in the world. Students practiced finding different map layers to investigate the world and to support claims. We culminated with making what is called Storymaps about a Wisconsin topic decided by each student.

Five students were selected to be entered in the Wisconsin ArcGIS Online Student Map Competition sponsored by the WLIA (Wisconsin Land Information Association). Mr. Hein felt all the entries were strong, but two students were chosen for state-level awards! Brian Simmons' storymap was chosen as one of the five best in the state and Mikey Rekowski's storymap was the Wisconsin winner.

Mikey was Wisconsin’s representative in the national competition! Mr. Hein appreciates the hard work his students put into their entries. Take a moment to look at what students can do with the program.
