The Oak Creek–Franklin Joint School District’s 4K program provides early learners a joyful, developmentally appropriate introduction to school. One that nurtures independence, social-emotional development, and a genuine love of coming to school each day.

For 20 years, OCFSD has provided high-quality 4K experiences, and four of our current teachers have been with the program from the very beginning. This deep experience, paired with a half-day structure that eases young learners into school, makes 4K an ideal first step for families. “Our 4K team is exceptional,” shares 4K Principal Eileen Aalderks. “They are passionate about early learning and recognize that a strong start in 4K helps shape our students' education journey,” Mrs. Aalderks adds.

A Day Filled With Learning and Joy

A typical day in 4K blends circle time, stories, songs, early math and literacy experiences, hands-on learning centers, dramatic play, outdoor play, and other fun educational activities. Our program uses the same high-quality curriculum as the rest of our elementary grades:
CKLA for literacy, Illustrative Math for early math foundations, and Character Strong for social-emotional learning.

Incredible Growth

“The growth in 4K is amazing,” shares 4K Teacher Carolyn Sorrell. “The kids learn how to follow directions and routines, interact with others and socialize, focus their attention, and learn what it means to be an active listener.” Mrs. Sorrel says. Students also acquire early academic skills, such as phonological awareness skills and number sense. “By the end of the school year, we truly become a school family, and kids are willing to take risks and problem solve,” Mrs. Sorrel adds.

Designed for Early Learners

Our 4K classrooms are intentionally designed to meet children where they are at. Centers give students opportunities to explore real-world materials, engage in dramatic play, and build foundational academic and social skills. Print-rich environments help children explore books, letters, sounds, and the joy of early reading. Through songs, stories, and interactive learning, our students build the skills that prepare them for success in kindergarten and beyond.
