Congratulations are in order for Oak Creek High School student Anya Flickinger! Anya is one of 127 girls in the state to earn a 2021 Award for Aspirations in Computing from the National Center for Women in IT.

This award honors 9th-12th grade students for their computing-related achievements and interests and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access and plans for post-secondary education.

To date, Anya says her greatest accomplishment has been getting a Software Development Internship with IIT-SourceTech starting her junior year of high school. She has also completed all available computer science classes at her school and has spent much of her free time researching programming languages and techniques. After high school, Anya plans on going to a four-year college for a degree in Computer Science. Her dream job is to become a Software Engineer. She can not see herself working in a field where she doesn't get to work with computers every day.

Since 2007, more than 17,000 students have received an Award for AiC.

Congratulations, Anya!
