Wishing you a happy last day of the 2020/2021 school year!
In a few short hours, we’ll be wrapping up most likely one of the most challenging and yet memorable school years of our lives. Please join me in celebrating this milestone, wishing our graduates well, and looking forward to a wonderful summer for everyone.
Last month, the District had the opportunity to feature members of the Class of 2021 in the summer edition of the Oak Creek Current. Four soon-to-be graduates reflected on their high school career, sharing inspiring stories, giving readers a glimpse of life before, during, and after the pandemic. Their stories gave me pause and made me think back on the year that was. We have all seen folks wrestle with confusion, hard emotions, even fear in as many months. As I read the stories of these four young people, I expected to see some of those same words, but I read none of that. Instead, I read an account of a team’s perseverance and desire to all play together again...Players working and problem-solving with their coaches and our athletic director to come up with a plan to do just that. Another student told the story of working at a local grocery store during the pandemic…she was committed to helping her community through the simple, honest, and valuable act of stocking shelves.
I read about the power of community and friendship and how these students found new ways to stay connected to one another. We have amazing kids here. We see stories every day of our students doing incredible things. Sometimes, especially after a year like this one, it helps to pause, recognize and take note of all the great milestones we mark during this time of year -- and after this year -- to be especially grateful. In fact, did you know that the class of 2021 earned more than $1 million in scholarships?! I am so proud of all our students.
Now, we welcome the end of this strangest of years and look ahead to the success and continued celebration of all our students’ achievements in the years to come, together.
Thank you for your support and commitment during these past several months. I am honored every day to lead this great school district and look forward to all that’s to come.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer. Take time to rest, relax, recharge and enjoy one another. Let’s make it a great summer.
See you all in the fall.
